MONIEZIASIS

  • Moniezia tapeworms are larged sized
  • Commonly found in Young animals — below 6months of age.
  • Prevalent worldwide
  • Occur during the wet warm season
  • There are four species
  1. M.expansa- Most commonly occurring specie.
    2.M.benedeni
  2. M.autumnalis
    4.M.baeri

Clinical Signs
:Diarrhea
Reduced weight gain
Intestinal obstruction
Nodule formation

Diagnosis
Infected Animal pass loose dung along with ripe segment of tapeworm.
Bunches of tapeworm are found in the small intestine Inside ducts on Necropsy.

Treatment:
Niclosamide (Drug of Choice)
50-100mg per KG.
Paraziquantel
Albendazole
Levamizol
Control:
Intermediate host should be removed.
Cut off route of Transmission
Avoiding use of infected pastures for consecutive years.
